Page Templates let you save a page layout (Smart Fields, Elements, Smart Schedules, and styling) and reuse it on new pages in this Smart Doc or others. Templates are the fastest way to keep a consistent look across product cutsheets, submittal pages, cover sheets, and section dividers.

What Gets Saved

A Page Template captures the full layout of the source page, including:
  • Smart Fields and their positions on the canvas.
  • Smart Doc Elements (text, images, tables, checklists, dividers, page numbers, form fields).
  • Smart Schedules inserted on the page.
  • Page settings from the Page Inspector (page size, orientation, background).
Data bindings are preserved. When the template is applied inside a Reference Binder, Product fields resolve to that binder’s schedule automatically.

Saving a Page as a Template

  1. Open the page you want to save.
  2. In the Pages drawer, open the page’s action menu.
  3. Click Save as Template.
  4. In the modal, enter:
    • Template Name (required).
    • Optional Tag to group related templates.
    • Optional Description to help teammates identify the template.
    • Company-wide toggle (admin only) to share the template with your whole firm.
  5. Click Save.
If Company-wide is off, the template stays personal to you.

Applying a Page Template

When you add a new page:
  1. Open the Pages drawer.
  2. Add a new page (+ on Loose Pages or on a Custom Binder header).
  3. From the new page’s action menu, choose Apply Template.
  4. Pick a template from the library.
The saved layout drops onto the new page. You can edit anything after it’s applied, the applied page isn’t linked to the template.

Starting a Smart Doc from a Template

You can also start a whole Smart Doc from templates. From the Choose a starting point modal (shown when you create a new Smart Doc), choose Templates and pick from your Template Library.

Managing Templates

Open the Template Library from the Choose a starting point modal to:
  • Rename a template.
  • Edit its tag or description.
  • Delete templates you no longer need.
  • Toggle Company-wide sharing (admin only).
Company-wide templates are visible to every user in your firm. Personal templates are visible only to you.

Best Practices

  • Name templates by use, for example “Cutsheet, single product” or “Submittal cover.”
  • Tag by document type (Submittal, Spec, Cutsheet) so teammates can filter quickly.
  • Save layouts with Smart Fields, not hard-coded text, so the template stays useful across projects.
  • Have an admin publish company-wide templates for standard deliverables to keep firm output consistent.
